DP successfully completed the trial run for Elblag project

DP colleagues demonstrated superb commitment and professionalism by completing the final milestone trial run for the 25MWe CHP biomass plant in Elblag, Poland, which is owned and operated by Energa Kogeneracja Sp. z o.o.  The test was completed just before the end of 2018, ensuring that the demanding completion schedule was met and that the project could be handed over successfully to the client.

This EPC project was highly challenging and demanded absolute focus and dedication from the international DP team to achieve the contracted milestones, which were driven by EU deadlines and regulations.  The follow up O&M period will span 24 months, but the plant is already operating well, with high stability and output at higher than contracted levels.   The plant is currently operating at steam capacity of around 75t/h -  however we have proved that we can deliver up to 89t/h.

Prior to refurbishment, the plant was barely delivering 40 t/h, with weekly stoppages required.   Originally designed as a 135,000 ton per year CHP facility operating on straw pellets, the plant performance was unsatisfactory, and DP was contracted by Energa in January 2018 to optimize boiler performance;  increase the security of municipal heat supply and upgrade the local infrastructure.  DP’s solution for the plan was a complete overhaul of the plant, including a full exchange of the combustion system and a modification of the boiler 2nd pass, as well as a change of control philosophy and software.

The implementation of complex projects such as Elblag showcases the strengths of DP’s global execution model, which is unique in the industry.  DP’s organization structure and business systems are fundamental in the resourcing, knowledge sharing and teamwork needed to complete such projects.
