DP CleanTech Group’s Thailand office has signed an EPC(M) contract for a new 9.5MWe biomass power plant in Uttaradit Province, north of the capital, Bangkok.
The plant is owned by Uttaradit Green Power Co. Ltd - a consortium composed of Thai rice milling companies and the well-established IPP (Independent Power Producer) Phichit Biopower, which owns and operates a similar plant.
Phichit Biopower will operate the Uttaradit plant under the conditions of the Thai government’s VSPP program, which has supported the development of renewable energy from locally sourced biomass and other renewable sources. The plant will be fired using either rice husks or woodchip (up to 100% of each) or a mixture of these fuels. For this flexible fuel requirement, DP’s MaxMulti HTHP solution has already been proven in over 100 plants worldwide, and is particularly suitable for complex, corrosive fuels such as rice husks and straws.
For the new plant, DP will supply the boiler island (fuel feeding, combustion, boiler and flue gas treatment) on an EPC basis (design, procure and install and commission); and will also provide an EPCM service for the balance of plant.
DP’s Managing Director for Thailand, Steven Christopher expressed his pleasure at the contract award saying “We have been working closely with the Uttaradit Green Power Consortium for some time to ensure that our technology solution and the project economics are absolutely right in the long term for the owners and the local community. Phichit Biopower’s Managing Director Khun Jirayuth Waiwarawuth, was one of the key individuals in this project development and commented “The consortium has continually focused on ensuring that all aspects of the project are properly in place. The project is DP’s second plant in Thailand, the first being the pioneering “all-coconut-waste” combustion plant in Mahachai. It will be Phichit Biopower’s second operation in Thailand.
