4 New Biomass Power Projects Signed Between DP and China Everbright International

In December 2018, DP CleanTech Group signed a further 4 x HTHP (High Temperature High Pressure) biomass-to-energy projects with China Everbright International, China’s biggest investor and operator in the waste-to-energy industry. DP has already signed 15 projects with Everbright, and these projects bring the total to 19. The new projects are located in 4 different Chinese provinces – Anhui, Shandong, Sichuan and Henan, and will showcase the most advanced types of plants being developed in China.

The Anhui and Shandong projects (located in Houzhou and Weihai cities, respectively) are typical biomass CHP projects, each using approximately 300,000 tons per annum of straws; forestry wastes; corn cobs and fruit branches; peanut shells and farm waste. DP’s advanced HTHP solution has multifuel capabilities to efficiently handle and combust such varied and complex fuel types. The total investment for these 2 projects is over RMB650mill.

The project in Chengde Industrial Park, Deyang city in Sichuan will be one of EB’s innovative “combined biomass and waste-to-energy” projects and will be located on the same site. It will also share key infrastructure and equipment - such as flue gas, water treatment and plant management systems - in the handling and conversion of biomass and MSW fuels to energy. As one of EB’s “Urban-Rural” integration projects, whereby fuels are sourced from both municipal waste and agricultural biomass, it represents an additional mode of operation for China’s largest waste-to-energy operator. In a previous release Mr. Qian Xiaodong, CEO of China Everbright Greentech, commented that “This innovative business model creates a synergy between agricultural and forestry waste and rural household waste. Expected benefits are to improve the environment and local economy, and to lower the costs of standalone development and operation thereby increasing the overall investment returns. “The project in Henan is similarly designed as an Urban-Rural project.

Simon Parker, DP’s CEO highlighted “We have been working closely with Everbright for many years, and we share a philosophy and vision for the conversion of waste to power in China. We are very supportive of Everbright’s concept of ‘Urban- Rural’ solutions for co-locating waste and biomass energy solutions in China’s smaller cities and towns. We see clear prospects for the synergistic development of gasification, biogas and other solutions for the efficient conversion of waste streams into energy, and DP’s portfolio of proven technologies are perfectly suited to support these developments. This is an excellent opportunity to accelerate progress.”

DP’s core HTHP technology originated in Europe, and has been used in over 70 projects in China in the last decade. It has been progressively adapted to meet conditions in China, and DP’s most advanced 130t/h HTHP Water Cooled Vibrating Grate (WCVG) solution, which includes enhancements to further mitigate the corrosive characteristics of the regions’ complex fuels is being used for these upcoming projects. Biomass plants using DP solutions have been conclusively proven to be the most reliable and economically superior in China, with the highest levels of fuel adaptability, operational stability and output. Meeting China’s stringent emissions regulations - which are the most rigorous in the world - is the next challenge for Chinese operators, and DP has almost completed development of an innovative new solution that will significantly reduce thermal NOx levels and help operators meet strict emissions standards more effectively and efficiently.
