DP signs MOU with RAW Energy in Malaysia

DP has signed an MOU with RAW Energy to develop biomass power generation and related energy projects in Sarawak, Malaysia. These projects will enable Sarawak to ‘grow its own energy’ and supply carbon-negative electricity to government assets, corporate customers and data centres. The recovery and utilisation of CO2 is also becoming increasingly important for clients, and DP is actively exploring this potential for this region. For the Malaysian projects, DP’s longstanding experience in biomass combustion complements RAW Energy’s expertise in growing Hybrid Tropical Grass “HTG”, a sustainable, high yielding, short carbon cycle energy feedstock which is produced into carbon-negative solid fuels, biofuels and/ or used for sustainable energy production. The MOU follows a visit by the RAW Power team and a Sarawak government delegation to review the Ely Power Station in Cambridge, UK, which has operated successfully for 25 years using DP technology.

A key aspect of the agreement involves the alignment of interests between stakeholders to share design and development risks. This Risk Aligned Contracting (RAC) approach uses an open book policy and focuses on collaborative decision-making to minimize costs related to consultancy, legal fees, and negotiations, aiming for efficient delivery of suitable plants.
